With concerted efforts during the last 10 years under this program, significant improvements have been observed in the attitude and life style of the Sex workers and their children. A large constituency has been created in favor of preventing minor girls from sex business in the brothel. In the light of this experience, the program is going on in Madaripur and Jessore brothels and will be continued for the next three years. The services provided are:

 

Sensitization and Advocacy

  • Organizing National Level Seminars 
  • Holding sensitization and advocacy meeting with National Level journalist
  • Holding NGO Coordination meeting at Madaripur
  • Holding Sensitization and advocacy meeting with local level  journalist
  • Organizing round table meeting with local level stakeholders at Madaripur and Jessore
  • Holding Dialogue with local government
  • Facilitating to observe national and international days

 

Establishing and strengthening the mechanism for protection of girls trafficked into the brothel from sex business

  • Holding Dialogue with police administration
  • Formed Human Rights Advocacy Groups (HRAG) at Madaripur and Jessore brothel
  • Holding regular HRAG meetings at Madaripur, Jessore and Daulatdia brothels
  • Ensuring Rescued trafficked girls and Legal support the victims
  • Ensuring reintegration of all rescued trafficked girls

 

 

 

 

Creating enabling environment for ensuring Access of SWs to Public services

Vocational Training for SWs and their Children

  • Communicated and Negotiated with Concerned Govt. Officials for Job Placement  of the trained  children

 

Providing  financial support for the Sex Workers girl Children for their education

PIACT Bangladesh implemented the program in three phases. Phase-I, concentrated was given on awareness raising of SWs about human and citizen right through holding national and local level dialogues, workshop and meeting, brothel management, local community leaders, local administration, law enforcing agencies and clients.  All these activities created an enabling environment for realizing human rights of the SWs in Daulatdia, Madaripur and Jessore brothel. An organization of the self-help group namely, AMOSUS ‘Abohelito Mohila O Shishu Unnyan Shangstha’ was formed and duly registered by the Department of Social Welfare. The office bearers AMOSUS was trained on organizational and financial management issues.  In phase-II, the capacity of AMOSUS was enhanced to run their organizations, generate fund, income generation activities etc. In phase-III, AMOSUS was given fund for implementing the program activities on their own. 

 

Sensitization and advocacy for creating enabling environment for ensuring access of SWs to public services

 

-        Holding local and national level seminars/workshops

-        TVCs/video documentary film developed  and aired in  national TV channels/ local media

-        Information cells established at Daulatdia, Jessore and Madaripur brothels

 

Establishing and strengthening the mechanism for protection of girls trafficked into the brothel from sex business

-        Dialogues with law enforcing agencies and Bar Council Members

-        Human Rights Advocacy Groups formed at the project areas

-        Provided legal support to the rescued trafficked girls and ensured reintegration

 

Rights Based Life Skill Development Education for SWs

-        ToT conducted with the Community Facilitators at the brothels

-        Provided rights based life skill development education to the sex workers on water and sanitation, reproductive health, STIs and STDs anti-natal and post-natal care, safe motherhood, etc.

 

Vocational Training for SWs and their Children

SWs and their children were provided different job-related training in TTC, Faridpur

 

Linking and referral to:

-        Union health complex for pre-natal, post-natal care, family planning, STD/STI and general treatment etc.

-        Thana Health Complex for immunization SWs and their children

-        ICDDR,B / Govt. hospital for VCT

-        Social marketing for health safety, such as condoms and ORS availability in the brothel

 

Linking with social safety net

Linking self-help group with local justice & legal assistance
