Awareness promotion on prevention of drug addiction in secondary schools

To create awareness among the secondary school students regarding the adverse effects of drug addiction and to improve their knowledge, attitude and practices about prevention of drug addiction and to contribute to drug addiction reduction and promotion of health, PIACT implemented a program titled Awareness Promotion on Prevention of Drug addiction in Secondary Schools under the sponsorship of Bureau of Health Education of Directorate of Health Services of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh from January to May 2016.

Under the program, 192 Advocacy Sessions were conducted with the students in 192 schools in 72 upazilas under 36 drug-prone districts of the country.  Participations of guardians, teachers, government health organizations and print media were also ensured to make them aware about the adverse effects and prevention of drug addiction so that they keep on their eyes to their students and children.

A total of 1152 Champions were developed from the students in 192 Secondary Schools who vowed to be free from drug addiction in their life and to continue their support among the peers in the schools and community to keep them free from drug addiction. 60,000 Leaflets, 960 Binding Posters and 192 PVC Display Boards were developed under the program on prevention of drugs and distributed among the students, teachers and parents in the schools.
